The Supreme Court has asked CBSE and ICSE to fix an objective system of giving marks to class 12 students soon. Both the boards informed the court today that in view of the situation of Kovid, they have decided not to conduct the 12th examination. The court expressed satisfaction that the government had given priority to the health of the children. But it also said that the result should not be delayed so that the students can start further studies.
In the petition filed by lawyer Mamta Sharma, there was a demand to cancel the board examination. In the hearing held on May 31, the government had told the court that it is already under consideration. Decision will be taken in 2 days. Giving time to the government, the court had fixed the date for the hearing today.
CBSE had sought 2 weeks time for objective method
As soon as the hearing began in the bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari, Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for CBSE, informed that a decision has been taken to cancel the 12th board examination. The judges said they were happy that the government took the decision for the health of the students. Venugopal said that the objective system of awarding marks to the students would be decided within two weeks. Till then the hearing should be adjourned.
ICSE had sought 4 weeks’ time to fix the points system
After this, senior advocate JK Das, appearing for ICSE, told the court that his board has also canceled the 12th examinations. But Das said that ICSE will take 4 weeks to decide on the points system, the judges stopped him and said, “You can decide in one night if you want, it is not such a big deal. The attorney general has asked for the amount of time.” , that is fair. You too take a decision within 2 weeks.”
Supreme Court will next hear the matter after two weeks
The petitioner told the court that many state education boards have not yet taken a decision on this issue. He said that the court should also direct the state governments to take a similar decision. On this, the court said that first let the complete decision of CBSE and ICSE come before us. Then other things will be considered. With this remark, the court directed to put the matter for hearing after 2 weeks.
